Related Books

I recently finished Frederick Raphael s latest book "Some talk of Alexander" and I thought to recomend some good (or less controversial) books about Ancient Greek History, The Spartans and the Battle of Thermopylae... of course first in the list can be no other than...

"The Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield, an excellent novel based on the Battle of Thermopylae, with nice historical details about the life of the Spartans.

Then comes "Thermopylae: the Battle of the West" by Ernle Bradford, a well presented overview of the Greco-Persian wars, with special focus on Thermopylae.

And finally, two books by Paul Cartledge, professor of Greek History at Cambridge University, he is considered a world expert in Spartan history (though I have a couple of objections to some of his points/conclusions) "Spartan Reflections" and "The Spartans: The World of the Warrior-Heroes of Ancient Greece" ...
